Rare And Original Pair Of Mid Century Teak Unicorn Chairs By Ernest Race 1958
Both chairs in excellent vintage condition. Structurally sound with no wobbles breaks or repairs. Original teak ply seats and metal frame/legs with original stoppers. Completely original condition. Seats are spectacular. There are some light signs of oxidisation of metal legs only to be expected from a piece 60 years old however this adds to the authenticity.
Pair of incredibly rare and highly collectible 'Unicorn' Chairs designed by Ernest Race in 1958. Only 150 were made for the British Pavilion at the 1958 Brussels World Fair. It is unknown how many examples remain today. This is particularly so of the original teak versions as many in later production were painted.
Made from plywood with painted steel rod legs. The seats are in excellent condition, very sturdy with no splits or repairs. There is some slight corrosion to parts of the legs but this adds to the authenticity. They could easily be powder coated and this could be arranged at no extra cost to the buyer. We would not recommend this as these chairs are highly sought after antiques of the future and retention in their original form makes them more desirable.
